Artilena holds off challenge to win the Ontario Lassie Stakes

Two year-old Artie Schiller filly Artilena took the lead on the final turn and held off a strong challenge from a closing Hastalavistababy to win the $125,000 Ontario Lassie Stakes today at Woodbine.

Trained by Catherine Day Phillips and owned by her Kingfield Racing Stable Ltd. in partnership with George P. Ledson, Braconcrest Inc. and Anderson Farms Ontario Inc., the latter breeder of the filly with Marette Farrel, Artilena has finished her season with 2 wins and 2 seconds in her 5 starts and more than $113,000 in earnings this year.

Ridden to victory by Jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson, Artilena provides Catherine Day Phillips with her second consecutive Ontario Lassie win with this year’s Woodbine Oaks winner Dixie Moon, who won the Ontario Lassie in similar style last year.

The Catherine Day Phillips trained Notice Me, owned by Kingfield Racing Stable Ltd., P.A. Fullerton Stables Inc. and Peter C. Reich, finished a game fourth in today’s Ontario Lassie Stakes.
