Dixie Moon headed to Breeders’ Cup at Del Mar

After winning the 2017 Cup and Saucer Stakes, 2 year-old Curlin filly, Dixie Moon, will be making the trip to Del Mar in California to compete in the Breeders’ Cup Championships in early November.

According to Daily Racing Form, the decision to compete in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf was made this past weekend, a few short weeks after her win in the Cup and Saucer Stakes at Woodbine on October 5.

Bred and owned by Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry, the Catherine Day Phillips trained filly out of the Fitzhenry mare, Dixie Chicken (who also raced under the guidance of Catherine) won her first career race, a Maiden Special Weight, on August 19, followed by a strong 3/4 length second place finish in the G1 Natalma Stakes on September 17 at Woodbine.

The G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf will run on Friday, November 3 going one mile for a purse of $1 million.

This will be the second Breeders’ Cup appearance for longtime owner/breeders Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry with Marketing Mix finishing second in the 2012 G1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.  It will also be the second time Trainer Catherine Day Phillips has made the trip to the Breeders’ Cup Championships, previously with A Bit O’ Gold in 2005.
