Dixie Moon Rises in Cup and Saucer Stakes

Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry’s Dixie Moon rises to capture the 2017 Cup and Saucer Stakes at Woodbine for trainer Catherine Day Phillips with Jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva.

Coming off of a strong second in the G1 Natalma Stakes last month, Dixie Moon gained the lead early in the Cup and Saucer against the boys and held off rivals in the stretch to notch her first stakes win.

The mile and a sixteenth black-type race on the turf for two year-old Canadian-breds was her second career win after winning first time out in a Maiden Special Weight going 7 furlongs in August.

A homebred by Curlin out of the Fitzhenry’s mare Dixie Chicken, who was also trained by Catherine Day Phillips, Dixie Moon, is a half sister to this year Plate Trial winner Guy Caballero (Quality Road).
