Dixie Moon Super in the Ontario Lassie Stakes

Dixie Moon was in good order coming off of a six place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar according to trainer Catherine Day Phillips. ¬†Dixie Moon broke her maiden in her first career start on August 19 this year and earned herself a trip to the Breeders’ Cup in California with a close in the G1 Natalma Stakes a month later followed by a win in the Cup and Saucer in October at Woodbine.

Despite her tough campaign, the two-year-old Curlin filly, out of Dorothy and Sean Fitzhenry’s mare Dixie Chicken (by Rahy), proved her talent when she hung on to win by a nose with Jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva aboard in the Ontario Lassie over a late closing Queen’s Fate this afternoon at Woodbine.

Dixie Moon and the Fitzhenry’s Mr. Havercamp will be getting a few weeks rest before travelling to Palm Meadows in Florida with trainer Catherine Day Phillips who will be taking 14 other trainees with her to prepare for racing in 2018.
