Dixie Moon Super in the Ontario Lassie Stakes

Dixie Moon was in good order coming off of a six place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar according to trainer Catherine Day Phillips.  Dixie Moon broke her maiden in her first career start on August 19 this year and earned herself a trip to the Breeders’ Cup in California with a close in the G1 Natalma Stakes a month later followed by a win in the Cup and Saucer in October at Woodbine.

Despite her tough campaign, the two-year-old Curlin filly, out of Dorothy and Sean Fitzhenry’s mare Dixie Chicken (by Rahy), proved her talent when she hung on to win by a nose with Jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva aboard in the Ontario Lassie over a late closing Queen’s Fate this afternoon at Woodbine.

Dixie Moon and the Fitzhenry’s Mr. Havercamp will be getting a few weeks rest before travelling to Palm Meadows in Florida with trainer Catherine Day Phillips who will be taking 14 other trainees with her to prepare for racing in 2018.
