Mr. Havercamp wins Two Sovereign Awards

Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry’s Mr. Havercamp tonight was awarded two Sovereign Awards for his outstanding achievements in 2018.

The Fitzhenry’s first took to the stage at the 44th Annual Sovereign Awards Ceremony to accept the award for Mr. Havercamp as Champion Older Male and returned to the stage shortly after to accept the Champion Turf Male honours, with Mr. Havercamp sweeping both categories he was nominated in.

At the end of the ceremony it was also announced that Mr. Havercamp was voted one of the finalists for 2018 Horse of the Year honours.

Trained by Catherine Day Phillips, the Fitzhenry’s Ontario homebred Mr. Havercamp by Court Vision – Tennessee Lamb (Medaglia d’Oro) began his 4 year old campaign in 2018 winning the Steady Growth Stakes by a clear margin of 4-3/4 lengths at Woodbine.  After finishing a respectable fourth in the Forbidden Apple Stakes at Belmont Park in New York, Mr. Havercamp returned to Woodbine to win the G2 Play The King Stakes followed by a close second in the G1 Woodbine Mile and a win in the G2 Autumn Stakes.

This was the first Sovereign Award win for the Fitzhenrys.  The longtime owner and breeders also bred and owned 2018 Woodbine Oaks winner Dixie Moon, who was also a Sovereign Award finalist in two categories for 2018; Champion Turf Female and Champion Three-Year-Old Filly.
