Two Exciting Back to Back Wins

Trainer Catherine Day Phillips recorded her own late daily double with two  exciting back to back wins late in the card Sunday at Woodbine.

In the ninth race, Gilded Splinters, looked like she had been bested in a hard fought battle down the stretch in the Allowance Optional Claimer going 1 1/16 miles on the turf.  The 4 year-old Henrythenavigator filly out of Minnie’s Meadow, by Affirmed came back on just before the wire to win the owners share of $73,100 for owners/breeders Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry, with Jockey Eurico Rosa DaSilva aboard.

This was the second win of the season for Gilded Splinters who also has two seconds in her five starts this year.

In the next race, a 6 1/2 furlong Optional Claiming sprint, it was another exciting finish as the Catherine Day Phillips trained, Aye Aye Captain got up in time to win by a nose at the wire after sweeping five wide on the turn for home in the tenth at Woodbine.  Eurico Rosa Da Silva was again aboard for the win.

 

 

 

 

Owned by Kingfield Racing Stable Ltd, C Hatch Jr., E Hart and D Anderson et. al,  this was the first win of 2017 for the 4 -year-old gelding by Old Forester – American Armada, by Quiet American, bred by Minshall Farms, after 4 seconds, one third and ninth place finishes in his previous seven starts this season.
