VAN LEAR ROSE LOVES CALIFORNIA
Updated - 10/22/2008
Van Lear Rose with Candice Bowyer 22/10/08 Van Lear Rose has taken to California as if she has been here her whole life. The very pretty daughter of Stroll has taken the past few days all in stride. In the past week, she has vanned twelve hours from Toronto to Lexington, Kentucky, spent the night at Churchill and flown out to California. This may seem quite the schedule for a two year old filly, but not for the Van Lear Rose. She is delighted with the warm weather, and thrill with all of the cameras taking her picture. As soon as she hears the shutters click, she arches her neck, bats her eyelashes and poses! The Kingview Farm homebred’s confidence seems to be an all time high, hopefully she will reward her growing number of supporters in the Bessemer Trust Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies on Friday.

Van Lear Rose will ship to Churchill next Saturday, and fly Sunday into California. She will be accompanied by Assistant Trainer and regular exercise rider Candice Bowyer.
VAN LEAR ROSE DOMINATES THE 2008 MAZARINE STAKES GIII
Updated - 10/6/2008
Van Lear Rose winning the 2008 Mazarine Stakes GIII Van Lear Rose, bred and owned by Richard Day’s Kingview Farms, rolled by American invader Livin Lovin in the final furlong to win Sunday’s Grade III, $275,000 Mazarine Stakes at Woodbine.

The handsome dark bay filly fashioned her second consecutive added-money event, and earned a solid 83 Beyer for her efforts.

The daughter of Stroll finished one length in front of well regarded Livin Lovin. Front running Georgia Song finished third. The running time for 1 1/16 miles was 1:43.69.

“I thought it would set up that way. I had my eye on (Ramon) Dominguez (aboard Livin Lovin). I thought she was the one to beat. I was a little wide, but there was really nowhere to get in. When I really needed her, she accelerated,” Sutherland said.

Day Phillips said she’s been excited about the two-time winner for quite a while.
“We’ve really liked this filly for a long time. We thought that she would get better stretching out, which she did. She is learning to relax in the morning. Luckily, Chantal got her to relax today, so she was very effective at the end,” said Day Phillips.

After making her fourth trip to the winner’s circle, Sutherland summed up her satisfying day at the office in two words.

“A blast,” she said.

Two words that aptly summed up the day for the entire Van Lear Rose Team: A BLAST!
JAMBALAYA: BACK IN FULL TRAINING
Updated - 9/29/2008
Jambalaya 09/11/08 We are happy to report that Jambalaya is training well. He is galloping daily at Woodbine Racetrack. He looks super and he is in a great frame of mind. We were sidelined early this summer when it appeared that he pulled a gluteal muscle in his backend. He seems to have put that behind him, and he has been back galloping regularly since mid August. We aim to start breezing him in the next 2 to 3 weeks. We hope to have him back to the races for a winter campaign at Gulfstream.
