Artie’s First Kiss Goes Gate to Wire for the win

Hubert Vester’s bred and owned two-year-old filly, Artie’s First Kiss, was the determined winner of the sixth race today at Woodbine going gate to wire to win the $40,000 Maiden Optional Claiming in her first lifetime start.

The We Miss Artie filly out of the mare Blue Kisses broke alertly and went straight to a 2-1/2 length lead in the first quarter of the 6-1/2 furlong race.  The Catherine Day Phillips trained youngster held off the late pressure of closing horses and crossed the wire 3/4 lengths ahead with Jockey Eurico Rosa da Silva in the irons.

Ontario-bred Artie’s First Kiss is the first foal out of Hubert’s homebred mare Blue Kisses (by Pulpit-Bluegrass Sara, by Tabasco Cat).
