Mr. Havercamp steps up to Forbidden Apple Stakes at Belmont

After a four and a half length 2018 debut romp in the Steady Growth Stakes at Woodbine June 16, Mr. Havercamp is set to take on six rivals in the $150,000 Forbidden Apple Stakes going one mile on the turf at Belmont Park this Saturday, race 9, approximate post time 5:50pm.  Jockey Junior Alvarado will be aboard.

Bred and owned by Sean and Dorothy Fitzhenry, the four year-old Court Vision gelding out of the Fitzhenry’s mare Tennessee Lamb, by Medaglia d’Oro, has been a versatile runner for trainer Catherine Day Phillips.  While the majority of his 5 wins have been on turf, his first career win and his latest win in the Steady Growth were both on the All Weather track at Woodbine.  Distance doesn’t appear to be a factor for him  with Mr. Havercamp winning at seven furlongs, one mile, and a mile and a sixteenth distances.

Mr. Havercamp has had two previous wins at the upcoming Forbidden Apple distance of one mile, winning the Vice Regent Stakes by a length last September and the Bunty Lawless Stakes by a sweeping 7 1/2 lengths last October, both of which contested on the turf.

This will be Mr. Havercamp’s second visit to New York State having competed at Saratoga Racecourse last August in the G3 Saranac Stakes where he finished fifth after a troubled trip going a mile and an eighth on the turf.
